Some time ago, I mentioned that at the locations where we
run on Sundays, there might be mass-participation events where there will
be thousands of people. We can try as much as possible to try to avoid it
but these days, there are so many events that it is very difficult to get a
full view of where things are happening.
So, when I drove into East Coast Service Rd, I sensed that
some event might be taking place as the traffic was quite heavy. The carpark
F2 was already full when I drove in. But the middle rows of parked cars
had not formed yet. So, I managed to double park there and wait for the rest.
As they arrived, I advised them to park at the bigger carpark down the road.
There was a "Yoga by the Sea" event organised by Shape magazine. Also,
the SAFRA runners were having a training run there for the marathon runners.
(F2 to B1) x 2 = 28 km. In fact, there will be another Newton run (32 km &
18 km) on 20 Oct starting from the Big Splash. Yes, East Coast is always
crowded with runs and runners - especially at this time of the year
when a lot of people are training for the Stan Chart. Lots of them start
as early as 5 or 5.30 am from B1 carpark.
Anyway, 10 of us started our run and walks towards NSRCC
just after 7 am. Not much of a breeze and it was quite humid. Regardless,
everyone achieved whatever distance that they set out to do. John also
turned up to give moral support and he managed to squeezed his car in between
two parallel parked cars. ,After that, the customary showers at the open air shower
point. We were joined by Steve Chia ( National Solidarity Party - ex NCMP)
who was running with the SAFRA people. Sorry, we did not discuss politics
- just the power of the showers ( and not power of the people !!).
With the exception of ultra marathoner Cheow Ju ( who was carrying 5
? kg weights ) and Lily, the rest of us proceeded to Old Airport for
breakfast as the doctors went to open their clinics. Looks like the
low koon are lining their wallets with thick fat stacks of $$$.
Breakfast discussion was of course the clarifications made
by Ngiam. As Bee Lok was not around, we did not get to talk
about the change of P, RI or is it Headmaster ?
The fact that ABC runners is more a social group rather then
a running group is most evident when 20 folks turned up for the movie -
"Blue Jasmine" on Tues morning , a public holiday. You do not
get so many runners these days - especially on a holiday. Too bad our
Jasmine ( no sight , no sound ? ) was not there. Anyway, a rather sad story
about the Jasmine in the movie directed by Woody Allen. This was followed
by a sumptuous lunch that was sponsored by Ldr B who made a rare
appearance ( in real person, not in the movie !!). Coffee followed - and
the whole thing lasted way passed 3 pm. For party animals, there is another one
at Lau Goh's house this Saturday for Grace birthday, Lau Goh wedding
anniversary, etc.... Call Lai Yoke/CC if you are interested.
This Sunday, I thought we should return to Garlick Avenue ,
which will be open after extensive renovation. You will get to inspect the new
kitchen.
We will do the usual run up Rifle Range Rd and the Holland
Rd field. Depending on the numbers, we will either buy breakfast or go the
coffee shop at Sixth Avenue. Usual time.
See you.
Regards
Yoke Weng
