Leader A's essay wins a prize in Standard Chartered Marathon Inspirational Stories Competition

Essay by Dr Ang Yong Guan

I took part in my first Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon in 2007 at 52 years old. I have since, within less than 2 years, taken part in 4 other marathons. When my patients look at my body, they couldn’t believe that I am a marathoner. I use my marathon race to emphasize to my patients the importance of keeping fit. It’s not about competing but completing. Focusing on completing and not competing takes the stress away from the race and make is so enjoyable. I usually armed myself with a camera during the race to snap pictures along the way; prompting one fellow runner to call me a “tourist marathoner”. I will continue to envision the joy on reaching the end-point, relax during the run and be positive in my thinking throughout. My 3 points can be summed up with the three letters: ERP (i.e. Envision, Relax and be Positive).

Chiu Ngor brought 2 guests Poh Choo and Seok Choon.
From Chiu Ngor:
Yes Dr. Ang, I was on the phone with Seok Choon when the group photo at the Glorious Dead was taken. Thru CC's photo of the RGS girls (see photo above with Poh Choo on the right and Seok Choon 2nd from right), we can indeed proved beyond any doubt that there were 16 women vs 15 men at the charity run last Sunday!!!!!!

A....B....C.....More of the ABC spirits
Big Makan at Beng Thin (OCBC Centre) after two major events in 1 day
Many ABC runners rose as early as 5am to get ready to reach Singapore Expo car park by 6.15am. After photo-taking, we boarded the ferry bus service to reach the start point of the inaugural Yellow Ribbon Run at Changi Village by 7.15am. Flag off was 7.30am. We ran 10km to reach the end point which was within the Changi Prison Complex right in the middle of the open space. After the run, we hang around for drinks, ice-cream and photo-taking before joining the queue to return to the Singapore Expo at about 1045am. As it was quite late and we were looking forward to a heavy dinner that evening, we decided to give the morning breakfast a miss. We went our respective ways to rest before regrouping again at 4.30pm at the Cenotaph for our Run Singapore 2009. After the 4.5km run, we re-gathered at 7pm at Beng Thin for a wonderful and sumptuous dinner. All the ABC runners present combined to give the 3 leaders a treat. Dinner ended at about 9pm.
